Parliament session set for Monday; Tahiri: Presidency agreed on a joint declaration against the Specialist Chambers’ ruling

Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Arian Tahiri said after the meeting of the Assembly Presidency that Kosovo’s institutions must show responsibility and take the necessary and urgent steps, stressing that citizens are expressing their concern and outrage following the Specialist Chambers’ ruling against the four former KLA leaders.

Tahiri said September 16 was a difficult day for Kosovo, noting that citizens are expressing their concern and outrage over the current situation.

“In order to demand that the relevant institutions act, the Assembly must behave responsibly and take the right, necessary and urgent steps in the face of the issues our country is confronted with. September 16 was a difficult day for Kosovo. The citizens of Kosovo are rightfully expressing their outrage over the current situation,” Tahiri said.

He said that during the meeting he had asked for institutional attention to return to what he called an important issue, and that the Assembly should have a joint declaration.

“I am here to sound the alarm, to bring the focus back to this injustice, and, with great respect, I asked the Assembly Presidency that the Assembly have a joint declaration, and we agreed to have a joint declaration at the session to be held on Monday,” Tahiri said.

According to him, Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu pledged that she would personally communicate with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti so that this legislative initiative takes the necessary course for proceeding.

Tahiri said the initiative relates to the draft law on the Specialist Chambers.

“Haxhiu pledged that she personally would communicate with Albin Kurti so that this legislative initiative has the necessary flow, so that the draft law on the Specialist Chambers is made. In the circumstances we are in, national and political responsibility is required,” Tahiri concluded.
