Kurti: If no president is elected, the country heads to snap elections

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said that if the Assembly fails to elect Kosovo’s new president, the country could go to snap elections.

According to him, these would be the fourth elections in less than two years.

Kurti assessed that such a scenario would be unnecessary, since the current Assembly is able to complete the process of electing the president.

“If we fail to elect a new president, we will go to elections that would be the fourth in less than two years. New elections are unnecessary. We have an Assembly and this Assembly can give the country a president,” Kurti said.

He stressed that in Kosovo the president is not elected through direct elections, but by the Assembly.

“We must understand that in Kosovo there are no presidential elections. New elections will again be for the Assembly and the Government,” he said.

Kurti also raised the question of what would be resolved through new elections, if a new Assembly faced the same difficulty in electing the president.

“Why go to elections again to constitute an Assembly that again fails to elect a president?” the prime minister said. /Telegrafi/
