Obradović in Oslo: Vučić must say who ran the railway project

Vladimir Obradović, a member of the investigative commission on the collapse of the canopy at Novi Sad railway station, presented in Oslo the findings of research on the management and corruption in the reconstruction of the Novi Sad–Kelebija railway line. The research was presented at Concept Symposium 2026, an international gathering devoted to the management of large public projects, attended by representatives of international financial and state institutions as well as researchers from European universities.

According to Obradović, the documentation — partly public and partly handed over directly to the authors — showed the involvement of people from the General Secretariat of the President of the Republic in coordinating the project, although the Presidency was not formally competent. “Aleksandar Vučić must answer a simple question: who, and with what authorization from his cabinet, coordinated the state institutions and the participants in the railway project? You cannot hold political power over the project, influence deadlines and priorities, and then, when the time of accountability comes, claim to have nothing to do with the project,” Obradović said.

He added that information about the state of the project and its problems had also reached the then mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević, and the then member of the City Council, Adrijana Mesarović. In his view, it is a legitimate question why the people whose names appear in the documentation are today on the SNS electoral list alongside Vučić.

Obradović stressed that the investigative commission, in its final report, concluded that there are grounds for suspicion that the canopy collapse was the result of the actions of an organized criminal group, and that there are grounds for suspicion that the president of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, stands at its head. “This is a serious finding, based on extensive documentation, and the prosecution must investigate the entire chain,” he said.

He and his colleague Ognjen Radonjić stressed that it is not enough for Serbia to determine only individual responsibility for the canopy collapse; it is essential to investigate how the entire decision-making and accountability system functioned in the project. The case was previously presented at the European Parliament in Strasbourg and at the World Congress in Hiroshima.
