Qatar to mediate new talks between Iran and the US

Qatari mediators are expected to hold separate meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in New York and with US representatives, in a new effort to end the war, Reuters reported.

According to an official briefed on the negotiations, the talks could take place on Monday or Tuesday and are expected to focus on a revised version of a seven-day proposal presented by Iran last week, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Araqchi is still in New York after attending the General Assembly. Meanwhile, it has not been announced who will represent the American side in the meetings with the mediators.

The semi-official Iranian news agency ISNA confirmed that Araqchi would meet the mediators in New York on Monday morning. According to it, the parties will review the latest proposals and positions on the situation.

However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei later said that Araqchi’s stay in New York had not been extended and that the minister would return to Tehran as originally planned.
