Qatar’s Former Prime Minister: Diplomacy Will Bring Only Temporary Fixes — Gulf States Must Insist on a Legal Solution for Hormuz
Qatar’s former prime minister, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, has warned that diplomatic efforts to end the US–Iran war are likely to produce only “temporary fixes.”
“I believe these temporary fixes will end up like temporary ceasefires, that is, being extended for certain periods without reaching permanent solutions,” he said.
According to him, the reason is that Iran sees waiting and endurance — despite the hardships it is suffering — as room to gain advantages, whether on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz or on the nuclear issue.
“In my view, given this situation, the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council should also bear part of the pain and insist on achieving a legal, permanent and clear solution to the issue of the Strait of Hormuz and safe passage through it,” he added.
Qatar has played a mediating role in the conflict, while officials in Doha have said they are working to facilitate even a short-term agreement between Washington and Tehran.
