RTS ‘Cultural Diary’ Presenter Dragan Vučelić Removed From Duty Without Any Explanation

“I have been the presenter of the Cultural Diary since it was created. I am no longer. In this job I worked for over thirteen years and produced nearly two thousand programs,” Vučelić writes. “I was removed from this duty without official notice, and consequently without any explanation. I learned of it from informal conversations with colleagues, and a few days later from the print media, which announced the new Cultural Diary — among whose presenters I am not.”

The veteran presenter says changes within programs are common, but calls his case “at least strange”, since — as he stresses — he never received a single remark about his work nor any request to change anything. “On the contrary! For my work I have been rewarded several times,” he adds.

“I have not violated the rules of the profession, but some rules I have apparently violated. Yes, I did not stay silent. Yes, I publicly recalled that the public service belongs to the citizens who pay for it, not to the individuals who run it. Yes, I stood with my colleagues when we were insulted and humiliated in defense of the dignity and name of the house where I work,” Vučelić writes, adding that he has grounded suspicions that this is where the reasons for his removal from the screen lie.

He closes his statement with the words: “But if this is the price I must pay, I pay it with pride.”
