Serbia beaten 0–3 by Belgium at the close of the European volleyball championship group stage
Serbia’s men’s volleyball national team suffered a 0–3 defeat (19–25, 21–25, 16–25) to Belgium in the final, fifth match of Group C at the European Championship.
Serbia played well in the first set and led 17–14, but then allowed the Belgians a 10–2 run and lost the set. The Serbs also started the second set well, but easily squandered a lead of several points midway through the set.
It was the third straight match at this European Championship in which Serbia began with a 0–2 set deficit — but this time the “eagles” had no strength for a third comeback and a 3–2 victory, as they had previously managed against the Netherlands and Denmark.
With this defeat Serbia closed the group stage in third place and in the round of 16 will face the runner-up of Group A — Italy or Slovenia.
