Serbia Student List Names Revealed: Stanić, Kokanović, Bodiroga and Šoškić Among 250 Candidates

Students in blockade in Serbia published tonight their electoral list with 250 candidate names for deputies in the Serbian Parliament. The bearer of the “Studentska lista – Studenti pobeđuju” (Student List – Students Are Winning) list is Ilija Srdanović, professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad.

The list, which was first published on studenti.org.rs and then removed from there, contains names from academia, culture and sports. Among the candidates are actor Tihomir Stanić, former basketball player Dejan Bodiroga (24th place), former Central Bank of Serbia governor Dejan Šoškić (27th place), as well as activist Zlatko Kokanović of the “Ne damo Jadar” movement (17th place).

The list also includes Katarina Stanković, Željko Hubač, Aleksandar Cvetković, Katarina Šćepanović, Adem Mavrić, Miloš Jevtić, Tatjana Paunović and Milina Marić, sociologist Jovo Bakić (76th place), geologist Zoran Đajić (58th place), lecturer Sanja Fric (40th place) and lawyer Sarah El Sarag (110th place). Most of the candidates are little known to the public.

According to the students, the list includes people of different ages, professions, experiences and from different parts of Serbia, chosen by the students themselves through a decision-making process that, according to them, they built over more than a year of blockades, plenums, discussions and joint work. They stress that there is no one on the list whose name should overshadow the others, and that the candidates have been entrusted to carry into institutions the part of the battle they waged in the streets over the past year.

The publication of the names comes on the evening of the same day the students in blockade submitted their list to the Republican Electoral Commission, for the early parliamentary elections of October 25.
