Serbian Government Approves Decree on Buying Rural Houses for Mothers with Children

The Serbian government in a technical mandate approved at today’s session the Decree on the conditions and manner of exercising the right to funds for purchasing a rural house with a yard due to the birth of a child. This enabled mothers of children up to one year old to apply for purchasing a rural house with a yard, using both state support measures for resolving the housing issue implemented by the Ministry for Family Care and Demographics and the Ministry for Rural Care.

According to the government’s announcement, mothers of children up to one year old can receive support for purchasing a rural house with a yard whose market value does not exceed 2.5 million dinars, thus resolving their housing issue without additional cash investment. Up to 1.5 million dinars can be obtained through the Rural Care Ministry’s program for purchasing a rural house with a yard, while up to 1 million dinars through the subsidy of the Ministry for Family Care and Demographics, granted for purchasing the first property due to the birth of a child.

The Minister for Family Care and Demographics in a technical mandate, Jelena Žarić Kovačević, stated that by linking these two measures, the condition is created for mothers, by purchasing a rural house with a yard, to permanently resolve their housing issue. “We want to improve the population structure in rural areas, encourage demographic development and offer families more concrete support at the moment when they are resolving one of the most important life issues,” she said.

The two ministries signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on August 28 this year with the aim of linking the two state support measures. The Government of the Republic of Serbia on September 11 approved amendments to the Decree determining the Program for granting non-repayable funds for purchasing a rural house with a yard in the territory of Serbia for 2026, which extended the right to participate in the tender to mothers of newborn children, with no age limit for the mother.
