Territorial reform, Ndoka sharply criticizes Berisha at the meeting with allies: the hearings with the SP were your “honeymoon”
The roundtable called by Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha with opposition allies on the territorial reform was accompanied by debate and criticism over how the process has been conducted so far.
The leader of the Christian Democrats, Nard Ndoka, asked Berisha for greater involvement of the allied parties, claiming they have been kept out of the consultations on the new territorial map.
Ndoka criticized in particular the opposition’s decision to take part from the earliest stages in the parliamentary committees, saying the allies had received no information about the process and had not been made part of the hearings held with the majority.
“It is a fundamental mistake that we took part in the two important committees from the very first steps. Those hearings looked like a honeymoon between the opposition and the majority. We had no information as allied parties, we did not take part in the hearings, we knew nothing at all,” Ndoka declared.
The Christian Democrat leader also criticized the DP’s proposal for the new territorial map. The Democrats have put forward a variant with 100 municipalities, but Ndoka called that number insufficient and demanded a larger number of local units.
“Even the DP’s proposal for 100 municipalities is not efficient; it is a very small number. Italy has around 8,000 municipalities, where they govern even with 3,000 inhabitants. It is more efficient when you have units elected directly by the community,” he said.
Ndoka asked Berisha for consultation with the allies to start earlier and be more inclusive.
“It would have been good if these roundtables had been held earlier. There must be institutional cooperation so that you also inform us; we have been in an information blackout,” he told Berisha.
