‘The Hague verdicts have turned Albanian politics into a graveyard of ambitions’ — Majko reacts to KLA leaders’ case: Where did we go wrong?
Pandeli Majko, the former Albanian wartime prime minister, reacted on Facebook after the Special Court in The Hague’s verdicts against former KLA leaders, raising the question “Where did we go wrong?”
Majko describes the situation as a moment of reflection for Albanian politics and says the verdicts have produced a crisis that, according to him, is not only political but also affects how the KLA’s legacy will be perceived by younger generations.
In his reaction, Majko argues that the charges relate mainly to the period after the end of the war in Kosovo and links them to the political developments of that time. He says The Hague’s verdicts will also influence how history is written and raises the question of why Albanians “lost the battle with Serbia” in The Hague, stressing that the answer “we were betrayed” is not sufficient as an explanation.
“The recent verdicts in The Hague have turned Albanian politics into a graveyard of ambitions,” he says, adding that “‘war crimes’ are part of the political battles over who would lead Kosovo after the war.”
Full reaction:
WHERE DID WE GO WRONG…?
After the announcement of The Hague’s verdicts convicting the KLA leaders of “war crimes” comes a reflection blocked by the question “Where did we go wrong?”…
The recent verdicts in The Hague have turned Albanian politics into a graveyard of ambitions!
The presence of politicians today resembles the resigned explanation that “…in the end, I couldn’t do anything but be present!”
In such moments, a person invents stories to give meaning to the past… until fiction replaces the truth! This is consolation but not justification!
The first consolation is that the KLA came out clean from the trial in The Hague! The KLA is being reconsidered as a “good army” but with leaders accused of war crimes!…
The crisis produced by The Hague is not only political! It will raise difficult questions from young Albanians about this legacy which is being legalized in The Hague!
Answers not given today will be understood tomorrow!
“War crimes” for which the KLA leaders are accused are mainly from the POST-WAR period, after the signing of the Kumanovo agreement, where the remaining Yugoslavia signed the loss of the War!
“War crimes” are part of the political battles over who would lead Kosovo AFTER THE WAR!
In “war crimes” were packaged the testimonies of Serbia’s spies with those who clashed politically with the former KLA leaders, mainly AFTER THE WAR!
In “war crimes” were intertwined corruption accusations against former KLA leaders AFTER THE WAR!
For those who assess that with The Hague’s trial declaring Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi “war criminals” justice has been served, there is an error of interpretation!
Serbia, as the most active actor of The Hague court for the punishment of Albanians, is not interested in what happened AFTER THE WAR! It seeks a substantial justification for the meaning of its state crimes against Albanians!
Serbs are a nation educated with narcissism! Serbia wants to win the War lost in history books!
The “war crimes” verdict for Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi are sufficient for “revenge” in the battle of written history!
Note that the maximum sentences are for Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi, who were the most public faces of the KLA during the War!
Pride in Albanian history after Skanderbeg has no leadership faces! They all have a “tail” with accusations of treason or dictatorship!
This is part of the Albanian drama and the deformation that their geopolitical opponents have encouraged! But it is also a consequence of the boundless passion and ego of the leaders of a nation with a modest state history!
Deformations to treat Albanians as a failed nation are part of a historical technique that is not written but implied!
Serbian wars begin in books to continue in reality! The Hague verdict was important for the new “book” of Serbia’s RETURN to Kosovo…
So today, the reflection on WHERE WE WENT WRONG must be collective!
The heaviest question is WHY we lost the battle with Serbia in The Hague? The answer that we were “betrayed”… is merely consolation!
