“The Legend of Zelda” Live-Action Film: Nintendo Reveals Official Title, April 2027 Release with Sony Pictures
Nintendo has revealed new details about its live-action “The Legend of Zelda” film. Nintendo of America president and COO Devon Pritchard called the film one of the company’s most exciting projects in the years ahead, in an interview with Variety magazine.
The film is being made in partnership with Sony Pictures and is scheduled to hit theaters in late April 2027.
During last week’s broadcast celebrating the series’ 40th anniversary, Nintendo officially confirmed that the film’s title is simply “The Legend of Zelda.”
Although no trailer has been released yet, Nintendo has shared official photos of the film’s lead characters — including Zelda herself, played by actress Bo Bragason.
Pritchard emphasized that partnerships like the one with Sony create new “touchpoints” that bring the world of Zelda to audiences who don’t play video games, expanding the audience beyond the traditional gaming community.
As part of the 40th anniversary, Nintendo also announced the return of “Ocarina of Time,” anniversary-edition hardware, a special concert, and dedicated merchandise for the celebrations.
