Tirana Court leaves Eraldo Fizi, ex-husband of Xhuana Nikollaj, in jail

The Tirana Court has left in jail Eraldo Fizi, accused of domestic violence and of causing the suicide of his ex-wife, Xhuana Nikollaj.

According to sources, Eraldo Fizi has admitted that he used violence on only one occasion against Xhuana Nikollaj and not systematically. According to him, the violence occurred a day before the young woman consumed phosphine.

As for the security measure, he and his defence lawyer did not request a different measure, accepting the “arrest in prison” measure pending the investigation of the case. He has also expressed remorse for everything that happened.

It is learned that during questioning by the police, Eraldo Fizi declared that he had loved Xhuana Nikollaj for seven years, that they had separated and were attempting to reunite.

The whole conflict between them, according to Fizi, occurred over a situation of jealousy.

Fizi had been wanted for more than six months, while on Wednesday he turned himself in at Lezhë Police together with his lawyer and was then transferred to Tirana.

Xhuana Nikollaj and Eraldo Fizi were married in 2025, a marriage that lasted only three months. The 25-year-old lived with her sisters in Tirana after the separation, while on March 9 she had a meeting with Eraldo Fizi and there was a clash between them.

A day later, on March 10, Xhuana Nikollaj consumed phosphine, taking her own life.

According to the investigations, signs of violence were found on the 25-year-old’s body on her head, face and one arm, while a letter she had left for her family members was also found in the apartment.

The young woman’s family members also declared after the event that she had been abused and persecuted by her ex-husband.
