Trump: U.S. moved a record amount of oil through Hormuz last night — “prices will fall once Iran surrenders”
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the United States moved “a record amount of oil through the Strait of Hormuz” last night — “more than we moved before the war,” as Al Jazeera reports.
Speaking to reporters in Chicago, Trump added that oil prices would fall “as soon as Iran surrenders, as soon as the war ends — which will end soon.”
The statement came a day after Trump dismissed Iran’s peace plan for reopening Hormuz, calling it “unacceptable” and saying Tehran had made the offer only because it is “losing badly.” A senior Iranian general, for his part, warned that the strait would remain closed until the U.S. economic war comes to an end — a sign that both sides’ statements about oil flows have become part of the narrative war over control of the world’s most strategic energy route.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s traded oil and gas passed before the war, remains the focal point of the confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
