Vučić: I Will Follow the Announcement of the Verdict Against Thaçi; Preserving Peace and Security for Serbs in Kosovo Is Essential

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated tonight that he will follow the announcement of the verdict against Hashim Thaçi and four other former KLA members, scheduled for Wednesday in The Hague. “I am preparing to follow the announcement of the verdict at 10:00 on September 16,” Vučić told TV Pink.

Asked whether everything that has happened recently in connection with this concerns him, such as the support rallies organized for Thaçi and the others, Vučić said it concerns him greatly.

“It concerns me greatly, and that is why it was important that I sent a letter to Mark Rutte, and it was important that he sent me a reply. Also important are today’s reactions from KFOR, which says it will not allow any escalation. It is very important to preserve peace and ensure security for our people,” Vučić said.

He added that the duty of KFOR and NATO is to protect Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, not the so-called Kosovo police. “No Serb in Kosovo and Metohija believes in that police,” Vučić said.

The announcement of the verdict by the Specialist Court in The Hague against Thaçi is awaited with great interest in Belgrade, as Serbian authorities have linked the pre-decision period to the risk of tensions in northern Kosovo.
