What Is the DP Planning? Journalist: Berisha Wants Tougher Action in and Outside Parliament

Journalist Ardit Hoxha reported on “Now with Erla Mehilli” about the DP parliamentary group’s meeting on Wednesday afternoon, where deputies discussed opposition action following the latest developments. According to Hoxha, Sali Berisha described the measure against SHISH director Vlora Hyseni as confirmation of the accusations the DP has made over the years against this structure.

Hoxha said that, besides the parliamentary group’s routine meeting, which lasted about four hours, there was also a meeting of the DP leadership and secretariat — the first since this leadership was elected in July. The focus was the upcoming opposition action, while the discussions called for the DP to be more aggressive and to undertake tougher action, both in Parliament and outside it.

According to the journalist, Berisha did not give a clear message about what the DP will concretely do in Parliament or regarding protests, but hinted that Democrats must take the situation into their own hands. He emphasized that the DP has supported the civic protest of the “Flamingos” and that the time has now come for Democrats to reorganize, calling on deputies and the secretariat to return to the grassroots and reconnect with ordinary party militants and supporters. This process, according to Hoxha, is expected to be linked to the 2027 local elections and possible actions in the coming weeks.

“Berisha said this is confirmation of the DP’s years-long accusations against the SHISH structure. There were two meetings: one routine of the DP group, but it did not unfold as such, since for four hours deputies had discussions where they called for the DP to be more aggressive and in tougher action, also in response to this case. Also, the meeting of the DP leadership and secretariat, the first meeting since this leadership was elected in July.

“On the agenda of this meeting — what the DP will do — Berisha gave no clear messages about what the DP will do in Parliament and regarding protests, but what was understood was that Democrats must take the situation into their own hands. He said the DP has supported the civic protest of the Flamingos, but now, as he put it, it is time for Democrats to reorganize.

“And there were two strong messages and demands addressed to deputies and the secretariat, appealing for them to go to the grassroots, to the militants, to the DP’s ordinary supporters, and to start a renewal process, which will also be used for the 2027 local elections or actions that may be organized and called in these coming weeks.

“While the DP will also be in the process of deciding candidates for the country’s municipalities and possibly tougher action, with interventions between Parliament or a possible protest that could be called on the boulevard. While the boulevard is already occupied every night by the Flamingos, this does not take away the DP’s possibility of calling a protest at some time or place, without clashing with the citizens’ protest.

“And one last detail worth noting: the request of some members of the DP group was for the DP to intensify contact with the grassroots. This could be seen as an approach resembling the PS’s ‘Prania Besnike’ [Loyal Presence], where every Friday deputies listen to citizens’ problems and concerns.

“While this one of the DP is perhaps a bit different, where DP representatives are distributed and delegated. This remains to be seen how it will function and be organized.

“And in another framework, that of changing political leaders, who have not changed since 2025, with the exception of Vlora,” Hoxha said.
