“You have the 22 votes for the president”, Deliu calls on LVV over the amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers
Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Blerta Deliu has asked the Assembly of Kosovo to approve the amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers.
One day after the Government returned the PDK-sponsored draft law to the Assembly, the party’s MP considers its approval essential, saying that in exchange the PDK will make available its 22 votes for the election of the President of Kosovo.
On the “Intervista e javës” (Interview of the Week) programme on KosovaPress, Deliu said that approving the supplement-amendment of this law in two readings would pave the way for a political agreement on the president, stressing that the country needs stability and a figure who brings the political forces closer together.
“If the law is approved within two readings — the supplement-amendment of the Law on the Specialist Chambers in the Assembly — the Democratic Party of Kosovo will have its 22 votes available for the election of the president. We believe that in such situations of civic need, a name must be found that contributes to stability. The latest calls from representatives of the European Commission were also for stability. Kosovo needs political stability more than ever. But to guarantee this stability, there must be reflection by the party that has won the largest number of mandates,” she said.
Asked who the candidate might be that would unite LVV and PDK, she did not mention any specific name, but said the president should be a figure who brings the political forces together and avoids new parliamentary elections.
Deliu stressed that the PDK does not want new elections, but will not support decisions that, in her view, would amount to an extension of LVV’s rule.
Speaking about the possibility of new elections in November if there is no solution for the president, Deliu said that the 16 September verdict against the former KLA leaders would be an unavoidable part of the election campaign.
She also mentioned the economic and social problems facing the country, including inflation, healthcare, education and relations with international partners, but said that beyond these issues, Kosovo is also facing what she described as a threat to the history of the war.
