Abdixhiku: The KLA Remains the Proudest Part of Our People’s History
The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, reacted after today’s verdict by the Specialist Court against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi. The verdict against the four former KLA leaders was announced on September 16 at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
Abdixhiku said the Kosovo Liberation Army remains an important part of Kosovo’s history and that today’s verdict cannot change what he described as the historical truth of the war.
“The boys and girls of the Kosovo Liberation Army defended the threshold of their homes.
The KLA remains the proudest part of our people’s modern history; yesterday, today and forever,” Abdixhiku wrote.
The LDK leader mentioned the crimes committed during the war in Kosovo, stressing that, according to him, the Serbian regime used violence against the civilian population, committed killings and expulsions, and destroyed settlements.
“No verdict, not even today’s, can undo the historical truth of the war in Kosovo. The Serbian regime committed genocide and crimes against humanity; it waged a savage campaign of terror and ethnic cleansing in Kosovo; it massacred innocent civilians, killed children, women and the elderly, used violence, forcibly expelled the population and burned and destroyed entire villages and towns,” he declared.
Abdixhiku called for political unity after the Specialist Court’s decision, asking political forces to set aside divisions.
“We call on all political forces to set aside divisions and stand together to face this difficult period for Kosovo. Our freedom has cost us dearly. Our state is everyone’s responsibility. Let us preserve Kosovo, civic unity and the friendships that stood by us on the road to freedom and independence,” Abdixhiku concluded. /Telegrafi/
