Anand takes Canada’s message to the UN: dialogue and multilateralism are the way forward
NEW YORK, September 27, 2026 – Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand used her first address to the United Nations General Assembly to call for dialogue and multilateralism, saying Canada is ready to work with partners on the world’s biggest challenges, as Anadolu Agency reports.
Anand, Canada’s top diplomat, told the assembly that in a world shaken by conflict and great-power rivalry, the rules-based international order remains the best guarantee of peace and prosperity.
She outlined Canada’s priorities: support for Ukraine, humanitarian assistance in Gaza, climate action and reform of international institutions so they reflect today’s realities.
The minister also stressed the importance of protecting civilians in conflict zones and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those in need, regardless of politics.
Anand’s debut at the UN podium marks a new chapter for Canadian foreign policy under the current government, which has promised a more active and principled role on the world stage.
