Araghchi urges Europe to correct its “destructive and irresponsible” approach toward Iran
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on Europe to correct what he called a “destructive and irresponsible” approach toward Iran, according to a statement from his office published after his meeting with British Foreign Minister Ed Miliband in New York.
In the meeting, Araghchi criticized Britain and the European Union, attributing the prevailing insecurity in the region and in the Strait of Hormuz to “militaristic and unlawful actions by the United States and Israel.”
He said establishing lasting stability and security in the region depends on ending what he called the genocide in Gaza and the occupation, and that the British government and several other European states should be held accountable for the support they give Israel.
Araghchi warned that continuing these approaches could further destabilize the region.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where diplomacy over the U.S.–Iran war is in full swing: Miliband had warned Araghchi against “hostile activity” on British soil, while Araghchi himself met this week with Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
