Arrested for Wounding His Ex-Partner’s Father With a Sickle, Fier Court Keeps MP’s Uncle in Custody

The Fier Court on Wednesday ordered the security measure “arrest in prison” for Bledar Bakaj, the uncle of Socialist Party MP Zegjine Çaushi, after a hearing held this morning.

The session to validate the arrest and set the security measure was led by judge Bora Shaholli, while the case was pursued by prosecutor Oljana Gjergjefi.

After reviewing the prosecution’s request and the materials presented during the session, the court decided that Bakaj will remain under the “arrest in prison” measure.

Bledar Bakaj, 52, was detained three days ago as a suspect in the violence against 67-year-old Erver Gremaj in Suk, Roskovec.

At the Fier police station, the 52-year-old denied the charges, declaring that he had not abused the 34-year-old woman and that he would give his explanations in court.

According to preliminary data, at around 22:30 on Sunday, Bakaj — the uncle of Socialist MP Zegjine Çaushi — went to the 67-year-old’s home in Suk and allegedly struck him in the leg with a sickle.

The conflict is suspected to have erupted after the 52-year-old went to the home of his former partner, despite a court-issued protection order against him.

Bledar Bakaj faces the criminal charges of “intentional grievous bodily harm” and “acts in violation of a court decision.”
