At least 27 killed in two shootings in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG, September 27 /ATSH-DPA/ — At least 27 people were killed in two shootings in South Africa within hours, police announced today.

According to sources, 17 people were killed last evening in a venue in Gauteng province, near Johannesburg.

Police reported that eight armed persons opened fire on customers, while 15 others were injured.

The attackers first shot people outside the venue and then went inside.

They used AK-47 rifles and pistols, took the phones of several people, and left in two vehicles.

According to police, 10 more people were killed this morning in a restaurant where a barbecue was being held, in an area near Cape Town.

Sources also reported 11 injured people.

Police said the motives of the two attacks are still unknown and there have been no arrests so far. Police have launched a search for the perpetrators.
