Beijing gives assurances; Trump makes it clear to Xi Jinping: aid to Iran is unacceptable
President Donald Trump said on Friday that he and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed the war in Iran at their White House meeting.
“We did,” Trump said in reply to a question from reporters, during his visit with Xi to the National Archives.
Trump made it clear during the White House talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping that Chinese aid to Iran is unacceptable, U.S. ambassador to China David Perdue said on Friday.
“We made it very clear to them a few weeks ago that, you know, any aid they would give to Iran, whether direct or indirect, whether intelligence, spare parts or military equipment, was completely unacceptable. President Trump made this very clear again yesterday. This is a continuous drumbeat,” Perdue said in an interview.
Asked whether this meant China would stop helping Iran, Perdue said Washington received assurances from Beijing on Thursday.
“We have seen movement, on that already. That is the commitment. They assured us yesterday that they will not do that,” Perdue said.
