Constitutional Court: Kosovo’s president must be elected by October 6

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo has set the constitutional deadline within which the President of the Republic of Kosovo must be elected.

According to the Court’s ruling, the 60-day deadline for the election of the President began on August 8, 2026 and ends on October 6, 2026.

The Court found that this deadline is determined under subparagraph 3 of paragraph 1 of Article 82 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, which regulates the dissolution of the Assembly.

In the relevant part of the ruling, the Constitutional Court finds:

“The sixty (60) day deadline for the election of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, pursuant to subparagraph 3, paragraph 1 of Article 82 [Dissolution of the Assembly] of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, began on August 8, 2026 and ends on October 6, 2026,” the Court’s decision states.

Thus, according to the Constitutional Court’s determination, October 6, 2026 is the final date of this constitutional deadline for the election of the President of the Republic of Kosovo.
