Former minister Aliu: The Special Prosecution has discontinued the investigations against me, I welcome the decision
The Special Prosecution has discontinued the investigations against the former Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, as Telegrafi reports.
Aliu himself announced the news through a post on social media. He said the decision to discontinue the investigations was taken on 11 September, while, according to him, it was communicated on the morning of 2 October by his lawyer.
Aliu stated that the investigative process had begun about two years ago and that during this period he had faced, as he called them, “numerous media speculations”.
“Apart from my work as a minister, my property and that of my entire family were also investigated, the income over the years, which had also been declared continuously from the beginning of 2011 until today,” Aliu wrote.
The former minister said that during the investigations he had faced accusations and public attacks, while stressing that he had chosen not to react.
“Since the beginning of the investigations I have been attacked from all directions with slander and insults of the gravest kind, directed at me, my family and the national ideal,” he stated.
Aliu said he had welcomed the investigative process and now also welcomes the decision to discontinue it.
“Facing a mountain of slander, I chose to remain silent and welcomed the investigation, just as today I welcome this decision to discontinue the investigations, even though for me it was always expected,” he wrote.
He warned that he may continue to face criticism and public accusations, but said he is ready to face them.
“In a world where fake news spreads easily, I am ready to face the truth,” Aliu wrote.
Finally, the former minister thanked all those who, according to him, had believed in him during the process.
