Ibar-Lepenac attack: court hearing against three defendants held today

The court hearing against three defendants — brothers Dragisha and Jovan Viqentijeviq and Igor Dimoviq — in the case of the attack on the Ibar-Lepenac canal in Zubin Potok will be held today.

The hearing is scheduled for 09:30.

Kosovo’s Special Prosecution (PSRK) has indicted the Viqentijeviq brothers and Igor Dimoviq over the attack of 29 November 2024 on the Ibar-Lepenac canal in Varagë, Zubin Potok municipality.

According to the indictment, on 29 November 2024, at around 18:50, in the village of Varagë, Dragisha and Jovan Viqentijeviq placed explosives in a section of the “Ibar-Lepenac” canal — public infrastructure serving the drinking-water supply and the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) for electricity production.

The indictment states that the defendants, together with several still-unidentified persons, acting on a prior agreement and with the aim of seriously intimidating the country’s population and endangering the constitutional order and security of the Republic of Kosovo, placed a considerable quantity of military-grade explosive — around 20 kilograms of Trinitrotoluene “TNT” — inside the canal.

According to the PSRK, they did this by means of a bag tied with a rope to a concrete pole, positioned so as to cause serious damage to the critical water- and power-supply infrastructure; the defendants then activated the explosive with a slow-burning fuse, causing a powerful blast that severely damaged the concrete structure of the “Ibar-Lepenac” canal.

The indictment says this disrupted drinking-water supply for citizens of several northern and central municipalities, hindered water supply to KEK, and endangered electricity production nationwide.

Through these actions, according to the Prosecution, the defendants created a serious risk to the life and safety of the population and damaged the state’s critical infrastructure, causing material damage to Ibar-Lepenac worth 376,774.70 euros.
