Jashari calls for abolishing the Specialist Court: “We must act as fast as possible”

Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Sala Jashari has called for launching institutional procedures to abolish the Specialist Court, following today’s verdict against former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders.

Jashari called for the Assembly to convene in an extraordinary session and for institutional steps to be taken to oppose the verdict.

“PDK will take all steps, but I, as Sala Jashari, have called on the Assembly chair to make an immediate call so that we start the session tomorrow. All deputies will return from The Hague and we will start with a session. We will start institutionally, so that we can raise our voice for our liberators. We will demand all forms to abolish the Court. But above all, it is very necessary to send the message that the liberators are not condemned in the name of the people. What we heard today is tragic for Kosovo. It is important that all political parties come together, especially the Albanian ones, and discuss; it is a very important moment for Kosovo’s future,” Jashari stressed.

She also called for the adoption of a resolution through which, in her view, a message would be sent to internationals that the KLA must not be condemned in the name of the Albanian people.

“Of course the Court was created and the liberators went with the idea that everything should be fair, but until now we have seen that the court has not been fair in any form; it has been completely political. And indeed there has been a call from Hashim Thaçi’s lawyer that deputies immediately start procedures to abolish this court, and likewise an extraordinary session must begin immediately. I have already called; we must create a resolution to show all internationals and everyone else that the KLA is never condemned in the name of the Albanian people. Every procedure must begin as fast as possible,” Jashari emphasized.

Jashari also called for calm and restraint from protesters, asking that clashes with Kosovo Police be avoided.

“I came here with the idea and intention, and I see that most of you are young, to tell you that we must maintain calm and restraint, because Kosovo is going through a very difficult situation, and we must be the ones who know the form and the way we will face the country. At this moment none of us expected this court decision; we as deputies all have the obligation to take institutional steps so that as fast as possible we find the form to abolish this court and stand by the liberators, those who wanted to give everything for their country. I hope everyone will show restraint and calm because this must unite us all… I ask for calm from the protesters; this is something that affects us all and must unite us all. In no way should we harm the police and our people,” said Jashari. /KP/
