Kenneth Walker III Shines in Chiefs Debut: 173 Rushing Yards and Two Touchdowns in 31–10 Win

Kenneth Walker III dominated the Denver Broncos defense in his first appearance with the Kansas City Chiefs, finishing the game with 173 rushing yards, including a 60-yard touchdown run. He added 18 yards on three receptions and another touchdown, as the team won 31–10 on opening night.

As NFL reports, Walker was signed during the transfer window to add pace to a ground game that previously relied too heavily on Patrick Mahomes’ magic. After the game, Mahomes stressed that his presence changes much of the offensive dynamic, while coach Andy Reid praised the player’s attitude and his impact as a protagonist of the backfield. The team experimented with the offensive line to better support the ground game, giving Walker a clear three-down role.

Walker had 26 touches, including 23 carries, and produced several decisive plays: according to post-game generated statistics, he recorded 101 yards over expectation and forced 14 defenders to miss tackles. His 60-yard run was the Chiefs’ longest play since the 2019 runs, and the performance clearly showed his ability to break tackles and exploit speed when space opens up.

According to NFL, Walker’s 191 total yards are a record for a player who took the field as the Super Bowl MVP in Week 1, breaking the previous mark of 180 yards by Jerry Rice in 1989; his 173 rushing yards are also a career high, immediately establishing him as a key solution for the Chiefs’ offense.
