Kurti–Hamza meeting ends without agreement
The chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Bedri Hamza, has declared that the meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti ended without agreement.
After the meeting, which lasted about two hours, Hamza said the parties discussed the current political situation, the trial process in The Hague, the amendment of the Law on the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, and the election of the president.
“We talked about the current political situation relating to the process in The Hague, about the need for the law to be proceeded with and approved in the Assembly, and the topic of the election of the president,” Hamza said.
He stressed that for the PDK the priority is the adoption of the amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers, while the issue of electing the president will be discussed after this process is completed.
“It is a need and a necessity to approve the law on the Specialist Chambers, and then we are open to discussing the president,” Hamza said.
The PDK leader announced that so far no agreement has been reached with Kurti, but he did not rule out the possibility of further meetings in the coming days.
“There is no agreement so far on the topics we discussed. It is possible that we will have meetings in the coming days as well,” he stressed.
The Assembly of Kosovo has until 6 October to elect the new president. If the president is not elected within the constitutional deadline, the country goes to new elections, as Telegrafi reports.
