Police officer arrested after allegedly taking a bribe to help a man under house arrest leave his home

A police officer has been arrested in the act by the Police Oversight Agency (AMP), after allegedly taking money to favour a person under the security measure of “house arrest”.

The officer is Inspector Çlirim Torra, a Zone Police Specialist at the Prrenjas Police Station, under the Librazhd Police Commissariat and the Elbasan Local Police Directorate.

According to investigations conducted by AMP, under the direction of the Prosecution at the Elbasan Court of General Jurisdiction, the officer allegedly took a sum of money in order to favour the citizen with the initials A.R., against whom the security measure “House arrest” had been imposed.

Through his actions, the police officer allegedly would have enabled citizen A.R. to violate the security measure and leave his home.

At the end of the investigative actions, Inspector Çlirim Torra is suspected of committing the criminal offences of “Passive corruption” and “Abuse of office”.

The procedures were carried out in cooperation with the Prosecution at the Elbasan Court of General Jurisdiction, while the investigation continues to fully clarify the circumstances and document the responsibilities of the persons involved.

AMP declares that it will continue with zero tolerance towards corruption, abuse of office and any act that undermines the integrity of employees of law-enforcement structures.
