Suspected of extorting the employees, the husband of the accused former director of the Durrës Post is arrested

The Durrës Police today arrested Feta Mataj, the husband of the former director of the Albanian Post, Durrës branch, Elisabeta Mataj.

Feta Mataj, who a short time ago was appointed to the post of deputy director of the municipal cleaning and greening enterprise in the Municipality of Durrës, was arrested by the economic crime police, as TCH reports.

The arrest was made after, during questioning, an employee of the post branch declared that Feta Mataj, the director’s husband, demanded from the employees the sum of 25,000 lekë every month.

Elisabeta Mataj is accused of embezzling thousands of euros from the Albanian Post, Durrës branch, and is currently under the security measure of “house arrest”.

Mataj had been in detention since 18 July, under investigation on suspicion of the theft in collaboration, through abuse of office, of 69 million lekë, funds destined for citizens at the Post branches in Shijak and Krujë.
