Professor Ziberi: PISA Results Are the Consequence of Our Daily Work
University professor Bashkim Ziberi was the next guest on the PodGo show on Telegrafi Maqedoni, with whom we discussed education in the country, AI in education, as well as the recently published PISA results.
He stressed that North Macedonia’s PISA test results are the result of the daily work in the education system. He said the country’s laws are good, but their implementation is lacking.
“The PISA results are expected; they are the daily reality of our work. However, these results will be discussed for two or three days and then forgotten; the old debates will return — the lack of textbooks, the education system. This PISA issue is the consequence of an education system constantly under construction, driven by individual, clan and party interests. On paper we write everything, but it is the implementation part where we get stuck. Another issue is that when power changes, everything starts from zero — there is no continuity,” said Ziberi.
Regarding AI in education, Professor Ziberi said teachers are not sufficiently prepared for this challenge.
“We must teach young people how to find themselves in the profession. Show them that the opportunities are more numerous than what we sell them as teachers. We sell natural science subjects to pupils as very dry, very theoretical. We need practical elements; in a large number of schools we have no laboratories.”
“Teaching staff are not prepared in front of pupils who use Artificial Intelligence. But care must be taken to minimize the use of AI among pupils and students; more should be done to encourage them to learn and to train,” said Ziberi./Telegrafi/
