Saudi Arabia suspends the operation of the East-West pipeline again after a new attack
The East-West oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia has suspended its operation again after a new attack on Sunday, 4 October, on this infrastructure, a source from the energy sector told AFP today, Monday, 5 October.
“The East-West pipeline was attacked again yesterday. A pumping station in Khurais, east of Riyadh, was hit. It had never been targeted before. The damage is considerable and pumping operations have stopped again,” the source said.
It is recalled that this strategically important pipeline, which allows Saudi Arabia to transport oil from the eastern part of the kingdom to the Red Sea while bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, had suspended its operations from 11 to 22 September because of drone attacks.
After the interruption of oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the war waged by the U.S. and Israel against Iran, Riyadh used the pipeline to redirect four million barrels per day, about 4% of the global supply, to the port of Yanbu.
