Season-ending surgery for Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is expected to undergo surgery that will end his season after a knee injury in the 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Dart was injured at the end of the team’s first offensive drive and left the field, with Jameis Winston taking over as starter and struggling the rest of the way (11 of 27 for 111 yards and an interception).

As reported by the NFL, initial examinations show the ACL is intact, but surgery is still needed to address the other injuries to the knee joint.

Further scans revealed damage to the MCL, PCL and meniscus, with the meniscus as the main problem, which increases the chances that rehabilitation will take a long time. Dart, drafted 25th overall last year, had promising moments as a rookie but also missed two games last season due to a concussion; this year he had started well in Week 1 before getting injured.

After the injury, the responsibility of leading the offense falls to Jameis Winston for at least the rest of the season, while the Giants’ coaching staff prepares the rehabilitation plan and adjusts the squad for Dart’s absence. According to the NFL, the surgery is expected to definitively confirm that the quarterback’s season ends here and that a long recovery period will begin.
