“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” comes to digital platforms on October 6: the end of the cinematic run of Sony’s $2.5 billion film

After nine weekends in cinemas, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, the Tom Holland film that broke almost every box office record, is approaching the end of its theatrical run — as Dark Horizons reports, citing the When to Stream tracker and several media outlets specialising in home releases, Sony Pictures has chosen Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as the digital debut (PVOD) date, about 67 days after its cinema premiere on July 31.

According to the same report, the digital release will arrive about six weeks before the 4K UHD and regular VOD on November 17, while subscription streaming (SVOD) is not expected before 2027. An important nuance: Sony has not yet made any official announcement and has not confirmed the date — and as reported, cinemas have agreed to keep the film on some screens at least until the disc release in mid-November, which has fuelled speculation that the digital debut may be delayed.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jacob Batalon, the film has grossed around $2.495 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film in US history and the third highest-grossing in world history. After six weekends at the top of the box office, the pace slowed after the Labor Day weekend — this weekend, its ninth in release, the film is expected to close in seventh place with $4.1 million.

For Sony, the question is no longer whether, but when: with a film that has broken every record, each extra day in cinemas means millions more at the box office. It remains to be seen whether the October 6 date will hold, or whether cinemas will win a few more weeks of additional exclusivity.
