The Buna, One of the North’s Most Remarkable Natural Treasures

Amid the green landscapes of the north and waters flowing toward the Adriatic, the Buna River remains one of Albania’s most remarkable natural treasures.

Prime Minister Edi Rama today shared on social media a video with footage of the Buna River, spotlighting the natural beauty of one of the most distinctive areas of northern Albania.

The footage captures the Buna’s scenery and the nature around it, conveying the calm and beauty of the area, which blends the river, greenery and the characteristic landscape of Shkodra.

The Buna, which connects Lake Shkodra with the Adriatic Sea, is a significant natural asset and an area with potential for developing nature tourism and various activities along the river.

The Buna River is one of Albania’s most important natural ecosystems. As part of the Buna River–Velipoja Protected Landscape, it represents a biodiversity treasure, with rich habitats for hundreds of species of birds, fish and plants.

The river also hosts various activities, from boat trips to water sports such as canoeing on certain stretches of the river, among others.
