Three attempts, three refusals: Machado denied entry to Venezuela

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado tried three times to enter Venezuela on Tuesday but was denied entry, according to a senior adviser.

Machado, who has vowed to return to her homeland, has tried several times to enter Venezuela in recent weeks. On Tuesday, her attempts by air and sea were all rejected, said her senior adviser David Smolansky.

The refusals came as Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez visited New York for the UN General Assembly and held her first meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has backed her to lead the country since the U.S. raid that captured former president Nicolás Maduro in January.

Machado left Venezuela in December to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway, after more than a year in hiding.
