U.S. sanctions Hamas financiers amid the war with Iran

The United States has sanctioned a commander of Hamas’s military wing and four of his associates accused of financing the group, as Al Jazeera reports. The sanctions hit a deputy battalion commander of Hamas’s military wing, together with two other individuals and two entities accused of financing the group.

The decision comes at a moment when the war between the U.S. and Iran is entering its eighth month, and as Washington continues its broad sanctions campaign against financial networks that, according to it, support armed groups in the region.

The new sanctions follow the U.S. administration’s latest line of striking the financing sources of armed groups, in line with increased diplomatic and economic pressure on Tehran and its allies.
