With 91 votes in favour, the Assembly approves in principle the draft law amending the Specialist Chambers law
With 91 votes in favour and none against, the Assembly of Kosovo voted on Monday in first reading on the Draft Law on amending and supplementing the law on the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office, as KosovaPress reports.
LDK (Democratic League of Kosovo) MPs did not take part in this vote, having not joined the initiative.
The vote took place in the extraordinary session of the Assembly held on 5 October 2026, following the reactions after the judgment of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against the former KLA leaders (Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi with 25 years in prison, Kadri Veseli with 18 and Rexhep Selimi with 13 years), according to KosovaPress’s reporting.
The legal changes aim to limit the jurisdiction of the Specialist Chambers; the session also discussed the position of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who said that the Government supports the draft law in first reading, but is not convinced of its effects, stressing that “the address of victory is the appeal”.
After approval in principle, the draft law is subject to second reading and further parliamentary procedures.
