Yoenis Céspedes Jr. shows off his power in training as several MLB clubs watch

Yoenis Céspedes Jr., the 17-year-old son of the former MLB star, is drawing attention with his swing shown in a training video. The clip, in which he works out at the Chiqui Mejías academy in the Dominican Republic and shows off his bat power during training, was posted by insider Francys Romero.

As Bleacher Report reports, Romero has noted that the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres are among the clubs that have recently monitored Céspedes Jr.’s development. In his Beisbol FR newsletter, Romero also mentions that in December 2025 scouts had evaluated his bat skills, especially his pitch-count recognition and ability to hit to all fields.

At 17, Céspedes is still developing physically, but his power is becoming more visible both in practice and in games. He can play both third base and the outfield corners; however, his swing remains the main trait that sets him apart. His family has a strong athletic history: his father, Yoenis Céspedes, had a 16-year professional career, including eight seasons in MLB with four clubs; he finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2012 behind Mike Trout, hit at least 20 homers in each of his first five seasons and finished eighth in National League MVP voting in 2016 with the New York Mets.

His grandparents were athletes too: grandmother Estela Milanés was a pitcher for the Cuba national team that took part in the 2000 Olympic Games. Céspedes Jr. is currently available to be signed by any MLB club, a situation Bleacher Report has also highlighted in its reporting.
