Berisha after returning from the U.S.: We took part in the most beautiful convention, 3 similarities with the visit 35 years ago
Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha held a press conference on Monday, speaking about his multi-day visit to the United States. During his remarks, Berisha described the Republican midterm-election convention as the most beautiful convention organized in the U.S.
On the similarities between his trip 35 years ago and this month’s, he stressed that he went as the leader of the largest opposition party. According to him, on both trips he sought the support of the U.S. administration and the diaspora for overthrowing the government.
“After returning from the U.S., where together with the chairman of the PR we took part as an IDU delegation at the Republican midterm-election convention — and with the secretary for international relations, the organizational secretary, the party’s deputy chairman and the chairwoman of LDG — we took part in the most beautiful convention organized in the U.S.
And when I say in the U.S., this is self-evident also for our planet, because nobody has a bigger electoral and organizational fantasy and magic of conventions than the two big parties have, and now concretely the party in power in the U.S., the Republican Party.
For starters, oddly, this trip, however much it is 35 years apart — and if you want, say light-years away from my first trip — had 3 similarities with it.
First, on my first trip and on this trip I went to the U.S. as the leader of the opposition or the largest opposition party. That is the truth.
Second, on that trip and on this trip, I went with one main goal: to seek the support of the U.S. administration and our diaspora — then for overthrowing the totalitarian communist dictatorship, this time the authoritarian dictatorship based on drugs, crime and the robbery of Albanians.
Third, on that trip where I, with my late friend Gramoz Pashko, went to take part in the ceremony of restoring diplomatic relations between Albania and the U.S., the gossip and the whole establishment raged against us.
They hurled at me and Gramoz Pashko all the epithets of treason, agents, etc., etc. — but this time no fewer.
The truth is that in Colonel Buendia’s Macondo, this time, to tell the truth, due to the multitude of media, they were even more numerous,” he said.
