Cërrik Municipal Council rejects the Socialists’ territorial proposal and votes against merging with Elbasan

The Municipal Council of Cërrik has voted against merging with the Municipality of Elbasan, as part of the new administrative-territorial reform.

At the meeting held on this issue, 7 councillors voted against, 2 in favour, while 13 abstained.

Cërrik’s decision comes after objections expressed for days against the proposal for territorial reorganisation.

Opponents of the merger have argued that Cërrik should continue to function as a separate unit, while the issue has also caused debate at the local level.

The Municipal Council of Belsh also took a similar decision a few days earlier, voting against merging with Elbasan and Cërrik.

Thus, two of the municipalities that under the proposal would be included in the new territorial unit have officially expressed their opposition.

On the other hand, the Municipal Council of Elbasan has voted in favour of merging with Cërrik and Belsh.
