Derek Carr Responds to Edited Photo in Giants Uniform After Jaxson Dart Injury

Derek Carr responded to an edited photo depicting him in a New York Giants uniform, as speculation about his possible NFL return emerged following rookie Jaxson Dart’s injury. In his reply on X, Carr emphasized that at the moment he is focused on finding a team to play for in NBA 2K27, hinting that a return to professional football is not the only option he is considering.

As Bleacher Report reports, Carr is 35 years old and started 169 games over his 11 NFL seasons before announcing his retirement in May 2025. He last played in the 2024 season with the New Orleans Saints, appearing in 10 games, completing 67.7% of his passes for 2,145 yards and 15 touchdowns, while being intercepted five times. During an interview on Good Morning Football, Carr said he “never says never” about a return and added that over the summer several teams contacted him to gauge his interest.

Jaxson Dart is expected to undergo season-ending surgery after injuries to the MCL, PCL and meniscus, suffered in the Giants’ 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. His primary replacement will be Jameis Winston, but New York is also seeking an outside alternative after Winston’s poor performance, finishing with 40.7% pass accuracy, 111 yards and one interception against the Rams. Giants coach John Harbaugh confirmed the team is looking for another quarterback, saying “all options are open,” according to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan.

Although the edited photo fueled speculation about a possible return, it seems unlikely that Carr is a concrete candidate to replace Dart; according to Bleacher Report, at this moment he is not seen as a reliable option for the New York Giants.
