Hidden inside chicken meat, 41 kg of cocaine seized in Durrës

Another attempt to smuggle cocaine into Albania through the Port of Durrës has been thwarted by police. Within a month, authorities have uncovered three cases of attempted drug trafficking through the port.

In the operation codenamed “Anchor 3,” police seized 41 kilograms and 350 grams of cocaine, with an estimated market value of around 2 million euros.

The operation was carried out by the Narcotics Investigation Sector in Durrës, in cooperation with the Local Directorate for Border and Migration and the customs structures of the Port of Durrës, during investigations into a suspected case of drug trafficking.

According to police, the drug was discovered during a detailed inspection of a container originating from Brazil which, based on accompanying documentation, was declared to be carrying chicken meat.

The inspection uncovered 37 packages of suspected cocaine, hidden in the outer covers of the container. The total seized quantity was 41.35 kilograms.

Meanwhile, investigations continue to uncover the entire scheme, including the origin and destination of the drugs, and to identify and apprehend the persons involved in this criminal activity.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
