IRGC threatens: American ships will be attacked even in the Indian Ocean if a new war breaks out
The navy of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has threatened to attack American warships, including in the Indian Ocean, if Washington starts a new war against Iran, as Al Jazeera reports.
“If another war breaks out, we will undoubtedly attack and strike their ships and destroyers even in the Indian Ocean,” said Ali Mohammadi, the IRGC navy’s deputy for political affairs, according to the semi-official Iranian agency Fars.
Responding to claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that the Strait of Hormuz is under U.S. control, Mohammadi mocked: “If Trump considers the Strait of Hormuz his strait, then why are his ships not here?” He added that Washington “just needs to bring one of its ships near this area” if it claims control of the strategic waterway.
The threat comes as tensions remain high after Trump publicly rejected on Saturday Iran’s week-long proposal to reopen Hormuz, while Tehran says it is still awaiting Washington’s official response through mediators, Al Jazeera reports.
