Israel launches airstrikes in southern Lebanon after Hezbollah fires ‘explosive’ drone
The Israeli army carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday, targeting what it described as Hezbollah military objectives, as Al Jazeera reports. According to the military statement, the strikes came after Hezbollah fighters had launched an “explosive drone” at Israeli forces.
Sunday’s strikes come at a time when Israel continues to hold about 6 percent of Lebanese territory occupied and has refused to withdraw, despite the terms of the November 2024 ceasefire. Lebanon’s official news agency has regularly reported Israeli strikes in the south of the country throughout the conflict.
Just a day earlier, the Israeli army said it had struck a Hezbollah weapons depot in southern Lebanon, while waves of air and artillery strikes in the border areas have become almost daily.
The development comes in parallel with high tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, where Tehran awaits Washington’s official response to its 7-day plan, after President Trump publicly rejected the proposal on Saturday.
