Lebanese Prime Minister Seeks Urgent International Aid for Families Displaced by Israeli Strikes in the South

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has asked the international community for urgent assistance over the humanitarian crisis in the south of the country, where thousands of families have been forced from their homes by Israeli attacks and threats.

Speaking at a high-level dialogue on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Salam said the situation is “particularly urgent in the south.” He stressed that support for the return of displaced families, the restoration of basic services and livelihoods, and progress on reconstruction “cannot be postponed until the current crisis is considered closed.”

“For Lebanon, moving beyond the crisis means addressing these questions now,” Salam said.

The war between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah broke out in March, while Israel continues to hold parts of southern Lebanon occupied. Israeli forces have repeatedly carried out airstrikes and artillery attacks in southern Lebanon even in recent weeks of the expanded regional war.
