Los Angeles Clippers Name Trent Redden Interim President of Basketball Operations After Lawrence Frank Suspension

Acting Los Angeles Clippers governor John Gibson announced that general manager Trent Redden will serve as interim president of basketball operations during Lawrence Frank’s absence. Gibson made the announcement in a video posted on YouTube, citing the club management’s decision.

According to Bleacher Report, Frank, who until recently served as the Clippers’ president of basketball operations, was suspended for six months following an NBA investigation into salary-cap violations related to sponsorship deals for Kawhi Leonard. The investigation also led to a one-year suspension of owner Steve Ballmer, with Gibson named interim CEO and governor of the organization. The investigation delayed the trade that sent Leonard to Toronto, which was then finalized on September 14.

Redden led communications with the Toronto team to restore the deal, according to other internal reports. He joined the Clippers organization in 2017 after spending 11 years with the Cleveland Cavaliers in various roles; he initially served as assistant general manager and was promoted to general manager in June 2023.

With this appointment, Redden will have a key role in the club’s decision-making as the Clippers prepare for the 2026-27 season, with a core including Darius Garland, Brandon Ingram and Keaton Wagler, as Bleacher Report reports.
