NNA: Israeli army drops white phosphorus bombs over Zawtar al-Sharqiyah in southern Lebanon
The Israeli army has dropped phosphorus bombs on the outskirts of the municipality of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, near the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, as Al Jazeera reports, citing Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA). The agency did not immediately provide details on material damage or casualties.
The report comes on a day of sustained Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon. Earlier in the day, Israeli aircraft again hit areas in the south of the country, while the Lebanese army announced that one of its specialized units had deactivated two unexploded explosive devices left over from Israeli strikes in the towns of Majdal Selem and al-Ghandouriyah in the Nabatieh governorate.
The Lebanese army urged citizens to exercise caution in areas hit by Israeli strikes and to report any suspicious objects to military forces.
White phosphorus is an incendiary substance whose use in populated areas has been widely condemned by international human rights organizations.
Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have continued throughout the week, as part of the regional escalation linked to the US–Israel–Iran war, with repeated reports of airstrikes, artillery fire and casualties.
