Overnight Russian Air Strike Hits Kyiv: Fires and Damaged Buildings, One Injured

Kyiv was hit on the night of September 25 by a combined Russian missile and drone attack that caused fires and damage to buildings in the Ukrainian capital, mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

According to Klitschko, a commercial building in the Podilskyi district was damaged as a result of a direct hit by a Russian drone, while another building in the Solomyanskyi district was damaged by drone debris. A fire also broke out in an open area near a building in the Solomyanskyi district.

According to preliminary information, one drone struck a 25-story residential building, injuring one person. Authorities are continuing to verify the extent of the damage and the number of injured.

Ukraine’s Air Force had warned earlier in the night that Russian drones were heading toward Kyiv. Air-raid alerts were declared in the capital due to the threat from Russian missiles and drones.

One night earlier, on September 24, Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv again: two people lost their lives and 8 others were injured. A maternity hospital and several residential buildings were also damaged in the attack, underscoring the intensity of Russian strikes on populated civilian areas.

According to Ukraine’s Air Force, during the night Russia launched 282 attack drones of various types, including jet-powered drones, as well as Zircon, Iskander-M, S-400 and KN-23 ballistic missiles.
